Measurements of the thermal characteristics of heated offset jets

Subject(s): Online resources: In: International Journal of Heat and Mass TransferSummary: A study is presented of the thermal characteristics of a turbulent offset jet impinging onto an adiabatic wall. Detailed temperature distributions are used to draw several conclusions concerning the flow characteristics of the jets. Results are also compared with a heated wall jet flow. The three regions studied are the recirculation, impingement and developing wall jet zones. A scaling of the downstream position is presented which collapses much of the thermal details of the jets. However, it is concluded that variation of the flow curvature coupled with entrainment for different offset ratios restrict the scaling. A local similarity of the temperature profiles is substantiated just downstream of impingement.
