Subject(s): Online resources: In: International Journal of Heat and Mass TransferSummary: A model is formulated to describe the drying process of a consolidated finite slab of wet porous material by forced convection of hot, dry air past the exposed surface of a slab. The model is very comprehensive and describes the evolution of temperature, pressure and moisture distributions in both the wet and dry regions. The distinct advantage of the model is that the coefficients are constructed from wellknown experimental results. The model is illustrated by application to the drying of wet brick. The system of three non-linear coupled partial differential equations describing the physical process, is solved numerically using finite difference techniques.
